Q: What type of school is LWIT?
A: It is part of the Collier County Public School system. LWIT is a competency-based, post-secondary technical school that operates on a semester system. The campus also houses the Lorenzo Walker Technical High School, for ninth through twelfth graders.

Q: Is LWIT accredited?
A: LWIT is accredited by the Commission of the Council on Occupational Education, and the Technical High School is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Many of LWIT's programs hold additional professional accreditations that are appropriate to their curriculum (for example, the LPN program is approved by the Florida Board of Nursing).

Q: Do LWIT programs provide college credit?
A: Although LWIT itself does not award college credit, all of its programs articulate into other colleges in the state, with the college awarding credit for LWIT coursework upon student enrollment in the college. Contact a counselor for more information.

Q: What do LWIT programs cost?
A: For adult students, costs vary by program, but generally include tuition, books, and supply and lab fees. There is no charge for GED classes, academic remedial classes, or English for Speakers of Other Languages classes. High school students enrolled full or part time at LWIT or in the technical high school attend free of charge.

Q: Is there a minimum or maximum age to attend LWIT?
A: Minimum age for our postsecondary programs is 16. Health Science programs and Fire Fighting require students to be 18 at the start of the program. There is no maximum age. Technical High School students must be of appropriate age and credit-status for high school enrollment.

Q: Can I take courses at LWIT if I'm currently enrolled in high school?
A: It is possible for juniors and seniors to dual enroll in high school and LWIT if they participate in the Academy for Career Education (ACE). Interested students should contact their high school guidance counselor for more information. Students interested in a full-time experience should contact our Technical High School offices.

Q: Can I take classes at LWIT if have a police record?
A: Some programs require a background check. Contact a counselor for more information.

Q: Do I need aparking permit?
A: Yes, all of our daytime student must get a parking permit.

Q: Is transportation provided for adult students attending LWIT?
A: There is no transportation provided for post-secondary students, although public transportation is conveniently located near the campus.

Q: Do you take donations - cars, boats, computers?
A: Yes we do. Donation of cars and boats only if they are less than 5 years old and appropriate to the curriculum. For computer donations, we take only those up to 3 years old.
