Marie Coleman of Collier County Public Schools Selected to Take Part in Exclusive Discovery Educator Network National Institute

Educators passionate about power of digital media participate in innovative professional development forum to learn about cutting-edge technology.

On July 15-19th, Marie Coleman of Collier County Public Schools participated with 40 other educators from across the country in a Discovery Educator Network National Institute in Port Canaveral, Fla.

The Discovery Educator Network (DEN) is a global community of educators passionate about integrating media into classroom curriculum. The DEN National Institutes are exclusive professional development opportunities open only to STAR Discovery Educators. These educators are DEN members recognized for their outstanding efforts to share their insight and expertise with their peers through activities including facilitating trainings, workshops or presentations about how to integrate Discovery Education products and services in the classroom.

During the institute, national leaders in educational technology collaborated with participants on a variety of educational technology projects. By the end of the institute, participants had created classroom ready multimedia projects, learned new ways to incorporate digital storytelling into their classroom lessons and had heard briefings on the newest online technologies used by today's technology-savvy generation, including Web 2.0 websites, podcasts, blogs and wikis.

"Participating in the DEN National Institute was eye-opening," said Coleman. "This forum made me excited not only about what Discovery has to offer, but also about the different technology and resources that are out there - whether it's Web 2.0, digital storytelling or just networking with colleagues from across the country. I'm looking forward to returning to school and sharing what I've learned with my students and colleagues."

"Discovery Education is pleased to be able to hold the DEN National Institutes and offer educators who are passionate about digital media the opportunity to participate in a unique professional development event," said Scott Kinney, Director, Discovery Educator Network. "We know that the educators leave this institute enthusiastic about what they have learned and eager to integrate new technologies into their lessons."
