Relay for Life Participation - April 20-21, 2007
The students and staff of Lorenzo Walker Institute of Technology and Lorenzo Walker Technical High School recently participated in Relay for Life, a fund raiser to support the American Cancer Society.
In addition to supporting a good cause, the event gave Lorenzo Walker an opportunity to showcase many talented students and services, including Cosmetology, Culinary Arts, and Massage Therapy. Although a goal of $5,000 was established, the combined efforts raised almost $8,000 which was donated to the American Cancer Society.
Many thanks go out to the students, staff, and generous donors who worked so hard on this event.

Automotive Program Receives Prestigious Recertification
The automotive training program at Lorenzo Walker Institute of Technology in Naples has received recertification by the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF) and The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE). LWIT's automotive program is the only program in Collier County certified in all eight areas: Automatic Transmission & Transaxle, Brakes, Electrical Electronic Systems, Engine Performance, Engine Repair, Heating and Air Conditioning, Manual Drive Train & Axles, and Suspension & Steering.
To achieve this coveted recognition, the school's automotive training program underwent rigorous evaluation by NATEF. Nationally accepted standards of excellence in areas such as instruction, facilities, and equipment were used.
"This is great news for automotive-minded young people and their parents," said Donald Seyfer, NATEF Chair. "Because this program increases cooperation between local education and industry leaders, it gives added assurance that LWIT's graduates will be employable entry-level technicians. As a result of the quality education provided by LWIT, the motoring public will benefit since better repair technicians will join the work force." Upon completion of the evaluation, NATEF recommended that LWIT be certified by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE). ASE is a national non-profit organization which tests and certifies repair technicians, in addition to certifying automotive training programs.
LWIT Lead Automotive Instructor, Armando Padilla, Instructors Larry Winchell and Eduardo Cruz, and Department Head Chris Fowler worked closely with NATEF to make certain that LWIT's programs would continue to meet the strict industry standards necessary for continued ASE certification. Adult and high school students alike can be assured that their automotive service education is of the highest quality, and is an important step in preparing them for employment in the industry.
Openings are available in the Automotive Service Technology Program beginning June 4, 2007.
