Students Educate About Internet Safety
Getting the word out about Internet safety has been a focus of the School District of Collier County. Some of the district's schools have been visited recently by experts in the field. Students at Pine Ridge Middle School had the opportunity to speak with Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum about Internet safety, and at Lely High School the Center for Missing & Exploited Children shared ways to combat cyberspace abuse. To keep the trend going, and to add a district perspective, five 10th grade students from Lorenzo Walker Technical High School (LWTHS) recently visited 6th grade students at East Naples Middle School. The purpose of the visit: Internet safety and ethics.
As a part of their Multimedia Technology class, the LWTHS students put together a presentation titled "Safety and Ethics on the Internet." The presentation consisted of a video, distribution of safety tips, role playing in groups, and to conclude - their very own original rap song! The students involved: Lina Rivera, Devon Bruening, Kelly Scheidell, Chris Cuevas, and Tyelor McElhaney. And according to their Multimedia Technologies instructor, Joann Cassio, "The students did a great job and have been invited back to provide further presentations."
